2026 Needlecraft

Rules

  1. All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor.
  2. All needlework must include a swatch of fabric, yarn or floss used in the entry. If not included, item will be disqualified.
  3. All articles may be shown only twice before being disqualified.
  4. Judges decision is final.
  5. No straight pins in work.
  6. Judges will be instructed by the Convenors to disqualify all soiled, defaced or old work.
  7. In case of no competition, the prize will be withheld unless the exhibit is worthy.
  8. New exhibitor or anyone who did not show in Class 29 in 2024 or 2025, mark “NEW EXHIBITOR” on the front of entry tag.
  9. All other rules of Homecraft Division apply.

Prizes for section 1–39: 1st: $6 | 2nd: $5 | 3rd: $4

Section: Sewing

Section: Quilting

Rules:

  1. All quilts must be double bed size, at least 72″ x 90″, unless otherwise stated.
  2. All quilts must be hand-quilted, unless otherwise stated.
  3. If possible, label quilt with name of design for spectator benefit.
  4. Remember: Quilts must include some swatches of fabric used in your entry.

  11. New Exhibitor (anyone who did not show in class 29 in 2024 or 2025, with the most points. Prize: $10. Donated by the Beeton & District Agricultural Society.
  12. Exhibitor with most points in class 29. Prize: $10. Donated by the Beeton & District Agricultural Society.

Hand Quilting Competition

Rules:

  1. Please review the General Competition Rules on page 7.
  2. The quilt must be solely made and hand quilted by the exhibitor and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Fair to be eligible for this competition.
  3. Quilts to be measured on the perimeter. Total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 324 inches. All 4 sides must be measured to determine the perimeter measurement.
  4. The quilting must be through all 3 layers (top, batting and back) and not be mounted on a frame. The quilt may have a sleeve attached to the back for the purpose of hanging the quilt.
  5. The winning OAAS Hand Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future OAAS Fair, District and/or Provincial competitions.
  6. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to give credit to the original designer of the quilt pattern based on copyright rules.

District Competition:

  • Each local Fair is entitled to send their Best of Show of all eligible hand quilts to the District competition.
  • Rules apply regarding quilts that have won at more than one Fair.
  • The OAAS will award a ribbon to exhibitors of winning hand quilts at each District competition.

Provincial Competition:

  • A $500 Grand Prize and rosette will be awarded.
  • A $100 Reserve Grand Prize will be awarded.
  • The exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt.

Judging Standard:

  • 25 – General appearance & design
  • 20 – Colour & materials
  • 55 – Workmanship
  • 30 – Quilting
  • 10 – Borders
  • 15 – Binding and picots

Machine Quilting Competition

Rules:

  1. Please review the General Competition Rules on page 7.
  2. The quilt must be solely made and machine quilted by the exhibitor and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agriculture.
  3. Total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 324 inches.
  4. The quilting must be through all 3 layers (top, batting and back) and not be mounted on a frame.
  5. The winning OAAS Machine Quilt will not be eligible to compete in any future OAAS Fair, District and/or Provincial competitions.
  6. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to give credit to the original designer of the quilt pattern based on copyright rules.
  7. The use of domestic, mid arm/or long arm equipment is permitted on hand or computer guided machine entries.

Provincial Competition:

  • All quilts entered in the competition must be machine quilted.
  • A $100 Reserve Grand Prize will be awarded.
  • The exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt.

Judging Standard:
